Let me tell you a story
The name ‘CELEST’ which was chosen years before metal bands, anti-baby pills and the like, originates from a fine single released in the early 90’s by English indie/shoegazing band ‘The Telescopes‘ (titled ‘Celeste’), at a time when shoegazing was being swallowed up by manchester rave. Which was not a bad thing! As an open-minded indie kid, who spent last pennies buying the latest Creation/ SubPop/ Factory records etc. 12″ vinyl releases, having bands like The Stone Roses, Ride, Chapterhouse, Pixies, Mudhoney, Sonic Youth and the like was fucking amazing. Every teenage mood swing was just a lift of the needle away! Getting goose pimples from Sonic Youth’s ‘Teenage Riot’, or Spacemen3’s ‘Transparent Radiation’, playing tin cans to the crashing cymbols of Ride’s ‘Drive Blind’ or screaming along to Frank Black’s voice in The Pixies’ ‘Tame’, all but drove ambitions to play music, and be influenced/ manipulated by these fantastic musicians.
Celest’s debut album ‘Take it in your stride’ is described in the press as being ‘a classic combination of indie-rock …..a masterful debut album’. Click here to buy it and tell your friends.
